Read articleYogurt (Plain) weighs 1.04 kg per litre. Convert litres to kilograms (and back) using its exact density.
1 liter of Yogurt (Plain) weighs approximately 1.04 kilograms (or 1040 grams) at standard room temperature. Because mass equals volume multiplied by density (\(m = V \times \rho\)), multiplying volume in liters by 1.04 gives the exact mass in kg.
Yogurt (Plain) has a density of 1.04 kg/L, which makes it 4% heavier than water. Plain whole-milk yogurt is milk that has been cultured and slightly concentrated, with a density around 1.04 kg/L. A 1-litre tub therefore weighs about 1.04 kg.
Café and restaurant portioning, tubs sold by volume but costed by weight, smoothie and marinade recipes, and tzatziki or raita batch sizes.
Greek-style strained yogurt is thicker and can reach 1.06 kg/L. Low-fat versions are a touch denser than full-fat, as with milk.
Type the volume in litres. The calculator is preset to Yogurt (Plain) at 1.04 kg/L.
Flip to kilograms → litres to find how much space a given weight of yogurt (plain) takes up.
See kilograms, pounds, millilitres and gallons. Each litre adds 1.04 kg.
Plain whole-milk yogurt is milk that has been cultured and slightly concentrated, with a density around 1.04 kg/L. A 1-litre tub therefore weighs about 1.04 kg. To convert, multiply the volume in litres by 1.04. To go the other way, divide the weight in kilograms by 1.04.
kg = Litres × 1.04
L = kg ÷ 1.04
1 L → 1.04 kg
10 L → 10.4 kg
100 L → 104 kgConvert 5 litres of yogurt (plain) to kilograms: 5 × 1.04 = 5.2 kg, or 11.46 lb. Reversed: 5.2 kg ÷ 1.04 = 5 L.
| Scenario | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 1 L of yogurt (plain) | 1 × 1.04 kg/L | 1.04 kg |
| 5 L of yogurt (plain) | 5 × 1.04 kg/L | 5.2 kg |
| 20 L of yogurt (plain) | 20 × 1.04 kg/L | 20.8 kg |
| 100 L of yogurt (plain) | 100 × 1.04 kg/L | 104 kg |
| 10 kg of yogurt (plain) (reverse) | 10 ÷ 1.04 kg/L | 9.62 L |
| Litres | Kilograms | Pounds | US gallons |

| 0.25 L | 0.26 kg | 0.57 lb | 0.07 gal |
| 0.5 L | 0.52 kg | 1.15 lb | 0.13 gal |
| 1 L | 1.04 kg | 2.29 lb | 0.26 gal |
| 2 L | 2.08 kg | 4.59 lb | 0.53 gal |

Slightly: 1.04 kg/L against 1.03 for whole milk, because cultured yogurt is thicker with more concentrated solids.
1 litre of yogurt (plain) weighs 1.04 kg (1040 grams, or 2.29 lb), using a density of 1.04 kg/L.
1 kg of yogurt (plain) is 0.962 litres. Divide the weight by the density: 1 ÷ 1.04 = 0.962.
Multiply the volume by 1.04. For example, 10 litres of yogurt (plain) is 10.4 kg and 50 litres is 52 kg.
