Read articleMolasses weighs 1.4 kg per litre. Convert litres to kilograms (and back) using its exact density.
1 liter of Molasses weighs approximately 1.4 kilograms (or 1400 grams) at standard room temperature. Because mass equals volume multiplied by density (\(m = V \times \rho\)), multiplying volume in liters by 1.4 gives the exact mass in kg.
Molasses has a density of 1.4 kg/L, which makes it 40% heavier than water. Molasses is the concentrated syrup left after sugar crystallisation. With roughly 75% dissolved solids it comes in at about 1.40 kg/L.
Baking gingerbread and rye bread, animal feed supplements, fermentation feedstock for rum and yeast, and bulk tanker deliveries.
Blackstrap molasses is denser than light molasses and can exceed 1.45 kg/L. Added water in feed-grade blends brings it closer to 1.3.
Type the volume in litres. The calculator is preset to Molasses at 1.4 kg/L.
Flip to kilograms → litres to find how much space a given weight of molasses takes up.
See kilograms, pounds, millilitres and gallons. Each litre adds 1.4 kg.
Molasses is the concentrated syrup left after sugar crystallisation. With roughly 75% dissolved solids it comes in at about 1.40 kg/L. To convert, multiply the volume in litres by 1.4. To go the other way, divide the weight in kilograms by 1.4.
kg = Litres × 1.4
L = kg ÷ 1.4
1 L → 1.4 kg
10 L → 14 kg
100 L → 140 kgConvert 5 litres of molasses to kilograms: 5 × 1.4 = 7 kg, or 15.43 lb. Reversed: 7 kg ÷ 1.4 = 5 L.
| Scenario | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 1 L of molasses | 1 × 1.4 kg/L | 1.4 kg |
| 5 L of molasses | 5 × 1.4 kg/L | 7 kg |
| 20 L of molasses | 20 × 1.4 kg/L | 28 kg |
| 100 L of molasses | 100 × 1.4 kg/L | 140 kg |
| 10 kg of molasses (reverse) | 10 ÷ 1.4 kg/L | 7.14 L |
| Litres | Kilograms | Pounds | US gallons |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.25 L | 0.35 kg | 0.77 lb | 0.07 gal |
| 0.5 L | 0.7 kg | 1.54 lb | 0.13 gal |
| 1 L | 1.4 kg | 3.09 lb | 0.26 gal |
| 2 L | 2.8 kg | 6.17 lb | 0.53 gal |
| 5 L | 7 kg | 15.43 lb | 1.32 gal |
| 10 L | 14 kg | 30.86 lb | 2.64 gal |
| 20 L | 28 kg | 61.73 lb | 5.28 gal |
| 50 L | 70 kg | 154.32 lb | 13.21 gal |
| 100 L | 140 kg | 308.65 lb | 26.42 gal |

1 kg of molasses is 0.714 litres. Divide the weight by the density: 1 ÷ 1.4 = 0.714.
Multiply the volume by 1.4. For example, 10 litres of molasses is 14 kg and 50 litres is 70 kg.
