Read articleGypsum Plaster weighs 1.2 kg per litre. Convert litres to kilograms (and back) using its exact density.
1 liter of Gypsum Plaster weighs approximately 1.2 kilograms (or 1200 grams) at standard room temperature. Because mass equals volume multiplied by density (\(m = V \times \rho\)), multiplying volume in liters by 1.2 gives the exact mass in kg.
Gypsum Plaster has a density of 1.2 kg/L, which makes it 20% heavier than water. Dry gypsum plaster powder has a bulk density of 1.2 kg/L. Mixed with water it sets harder and denser.
Wall and ceiling skimming, moulding and casting, and ordering bags per room.
Lightweight plasters with perlite are around 0.8–1.0 kg/L. Cured plaster is about 0.7–1.2 depending on porosity.
Type the volume in litres. The calculator is preset to Gypsum Plaster at 1.2 kg/L.
Flip to kilograms → litres to find how much space a given weight of gypsum plaster takes up.
See kilograms, pounds, millilitres and gallons. Each litre adds 1.2 kg.
Dry gypsum plaster powder has a bulk density of 1.2 kg/L. Mixed with water it sets harder and denser. To convert, multiply the volume in litres by 1.2. To go the other way, divide the weight in kilograms by 1.2.
kg = Litres × 1.2
L = kg ÷ 1.2
1 L → 1.2 kg
10 L → 12 kg
100 L → 120 kgConvert 5 litres of gypsum plaster to kilograms: 5 × 1.2 = 6 kg, or 13.23 lb. Reversed: 6 kg ÷ 1.2 = 5 L.
| Scenario | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 1 L of gypsum plaster | 1 × 1.2 kg/L | 1.2 kg |
| 5 L of gypsum plaster | 5 × 1.2 kg/L | 6 kg |
| 20 L of gypsum plaster | 20 × 1.2 kg/L | 24 kg |
| 100 L of gypsum plaster | 100 × 1.2 kg/L | 120 kg |
| 10 kg of gypsum plaster (reverse) | 10 ÷ 1.2 kg/L | 8.33 L |
| Litres | Kilograms | Pounds | US gallons |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.25 L | 0.3 kg | 0.66 lb | 0.07 gal |
| 0.5 L | 0.6 kg | 1.32 lb | 0.13 gal |
| 1 L | 1.2 kg | 2.65 lb | 0.26 gal |

About 1,200 kg.
1 litre of gypsum plaster weighs 1.2 kg (1200 grams, or 2.65 lb), using a density of 1.2 kg/L.
1 kg of gypsum plaster is 0.833 litres. Divide the weight by the density: 1 ÷ 1.2 = 0.833.
Multiply the volume by 1.2. For example, 10 litres of gypsum plaster is 12 kg and 50 litres is 60 kg.
