Read articleCocoa Powder weighs 0.5 kg per litre. Convert litres to kilograms (and back) using its exact density.
1 liter of Cocoa Powder weighs approximately 0.5 kilograms (or 500 grams) at standard room temperature. Because mass equals volume multiplied by density (\(m = V \times \rho\)), multiplying volume in liters by 0.5 gives the exact mass in kg.
Cocoa Powder has a density of 0.5 kg/L, which makes it 50% lighter than water. Unsweetened cocoa is a fine powder that traps air, with a bulk density of 0.50 kg/L.

Dutch-process and natural cocoa differ slightly. Sifting makes it fluffier and lighter per cup, while compaction in the tin increases weight.
Type the volume in litres. The calculator is preset to Cocoa Powder at 0.5 kg/L.
Flip to kilograms → litres to find how much space a given weight of cocoa powder takes up.
See kilograms, pounds, millilitres and gallons. Each litre adds 0.5 kg.
Unsweetened cocoa is a fine powder that traps air, with a bulk density of 0.50 kg/L. To convert, multiply the volume in litres by 0.5. To go the other way, divide the weight in kilograms by 0.5.
kg = Litres × 0.5
L = kg ÷ 0.5
1 L → 0.5 kg
10 L → 5 kg
100 L → 50 kgConvert 5 litres of cocoa powder to kilograms: 5 × 0.5 = 2.5 kg, or 5.51 lb. Reversed: 2.5 kg ÷ 0.5 = 5 L.
| Scenario | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 1 L of cocoa powder | 1 × 0.5 kg/L | 0.5 kg |
| 5 L of cocoa powder | 5 × 0.5 kg/L | 2.5 kg |
| 20 L of cocoa powder | 20 × 0.5 kg/L | 10 kg |
| 100 L of cocoa powder | 100 × 0.5 kg/L | 50 kg |
| 10 kg of cocoa powder (reverse) | 10 ÷ 0.5 kg/L | 20 L |
| Litres | Kilograms | Pounds | US gallons |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.25 L | 0.125 kg | 0.28 lb | 0.07 gal |
| 0.5 L | 0.25 kg | 0.55 lb | 0.13 gal |
| 1 L | 0.5 kg | 1.1 lb | 0.26 gal |
| 2 L | 1 kg | 2.2 lb | 0.53 gal |
| 5 L | 2.5 kg | 5.51 lb | 1.32 gal |
| 10 L | 5 kg | 11.02 lb | 2.64 gal |
| 20 L | 10 kg | 22.05 lb | 5.28 gal |
| 50 L | 25 kg | 55.12 lb | 13.21 gal |

1 litre of cocoa powder weighs 0.5 kg (500 grams, or 1.1 lb), using a density of 0.5 kg/L.
1 kg of cocoa powder is 2 litres. Divide the weight by the density: 1 ÷ 0.5 = 2.
Multiply the volume by 0.5. For example, 10 litres of cocoa powder is 5 kg and 50 litres is 25 kg.
