Read articleBaking Soda weighs 1.05 kg per litre. Convert litres to kilograms (and back) using its exact density.
1 liter of Baking Soda weighs approximately 1.05 kilograms (or 1050 grams) at standard room temperature. Because mass equals volume multiplied by density (\(m = V \times \rho\)), multiplying volume in liters by 1.05 gives the exact mass in kg.
Baking Soda has a density of 1.05 kg/L, which makes it 5% heavier than water. Sodium bicarbonate is a dense crystalline powder, 1.05 kg/L as bulk, heavier than water per litre of loose powder.

Pressed or caked soda is denser still. Baking powder, which contains starch, is much lighter at about 0.9 kg/L.
Type the volume in litres. The calculator is preset to Baking Soda at 1.05 kg/L.
Flip to kilograms → litres to find how much space a given weight of baking soda takes up.
See kilograms, pounds, millilitres and gallons. Each litre adds 1.05 kg.
Sodium bicarbonate is a dense crystalline powder, 1.05 kg/L as bulk, heavier than water per litre of loose powder. To convert, multiply the volume in litres by 1.05. To go the other way, divide the weight in kilograms by 1.05.
kg = Litres × 1.05
L = kg ÷ 1.05
1 L → 1.05 kg
10 L → 10.5 kg
100 L → 105 kgConvert 5 litres of baking soda to kilograms: 5 × 1.05 = 5.25 kg, or 11.57 lb. Reversed: 5.25 kg ÷ 1.05 = 5 L.
| Scenario | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 1 L of baking soda | 1 × 1.05 kg/L | 1.05 kg |
| 5 L of baking soda | 5 × 1.05 kg/L | 5.25 kg |
| 20 L of baking soda | 20 × 1.05 kg/L | 21 kg |
| 100 L of baking soda | 100 × 1.05 kg/L | 105 kg |
| 10 kg of baking soda (reverse) | 10 ÷ 1.05 kg/L | 9.52 L |

1 litre of baking soda weighs 1.05 kg (1050 grams, or 2.31 lb), using a density of 1.05 kg/L.
1 kg of baking soda is 0.952 litres. Divide the weight by the density: 1 ÷ 1.05 = 0.952.
Multiply the volume by 1.05. For example, 10 litres of baking soda is 10.5 kg and 50 litres is 52.5 kg.
