Read articleHydraulic Oil weighs 0.875 kg per litre. Convert litres to kilograms (and back) using its exact density.
1 liter of Hydraulic Oil weighs approximately 0.875 kilograms (or 875 grams) at standard room temperature. Because mass equals volume multiplied by density (\(m = V \times \rho\)), multiplying volume in liters by 0.875 gives the exact mass in kg.
Hydraulic Oil has a density of 0.875 kg/L, which makes it 13% lighter than water. ISO VG 46 hydraulic oil is a refined mineral oil with additives and weighs about 0.875 kg/L, which is within a few percent of engine oil.
Excavator and press reservoir fills, system flushing, cylinder and accumulator volume checks and waste-oil handling.
Water-glycol and synthetic fire-resistant fluids are noticeably heavier, around 1.05–1.1 kg/L. Check the datasheet rather than assuming mineral oil.
Type the volume in litres. The calculator is preset to Hydraulic Oil at 0.875 kg/L.
Flip to kilograms → litres to find how much space a given weight of hydraulic oil takes up.
See kilograms, pounds, millilitres and gallons. Each litre adds 0.875 kg.
ISO VG 46 hydraulic oil is a refined mineral oil with additives and weighs about 0.875 kg/L, which is within a few percent of engine oil. To convert, multiply the volume in litres by 0.875. To go the other way, divide the weight in kilograms by 0.875.
kg = Litres × 0.875
L = kg ÷ 0.875
1 L → 0.875 kg
10 L → 8.75 kg
100 L → 87.5 kgConvert 5 litres of hydraulic oil to kilograms: 5 × 0.875 = 4.375 kg, or 9.65 lb. Reversed: 4.375 kg ÷ 0.875 = 5 L.
| Scenario | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 1 L of hydraulic oil | 1 × 0.875 kg/L | 0.875 kg |
| 5 L of hydraulic oil | 5 × 0.875 kg/L | 4.375 kg |
| 20 L of hydraulic oil | 20 × 0.875 kg/L | 17.5 kg |
| 100 L of hydraulic oil | 100 × 0.875 kg/L | 87.5 kg |
| 10 kg of hydraulic oil (reverse) | 10 ÷ 0.875 kg/L | 11.43 L |
| Litres | Kilograms | Pounds | US gallons |

Mineral hydraulic oil is: 0.875 kg/L against 1.0 for water. Fire-resistant water-glycol types are not.
1 litre of hydraulic oil weighs 0.875 kg (875 grams, or 1.93 lb), using a density of 0.875 kg/L.
1 kg of hydraulic oil is 1.143 litres. Divide the weight by the density: 1 ÷ 0.875 = 1.143.
Multiply the volume by 0.875. For example, 10 litres of hydraulic oil is 8.75 kg and 50 litres is 43.75 kg.
